I’m not anti-AI but Jesus the ads for big AI services are just incredibly bleak. There are two that I see over and over:
Guy is going to meet his girlfriend’s dad. He works in some advanced technical field. Guy uses AI to pretend to be knowledgeable about / interested in the field, and opens with saying he want to “pick your brain” about some specific concept. Dad is fooled and impressed.
Woman is preparing for a book club meeting. The book is Moby Dick. She uses AI to ask about the themes of the book and generate discussion questions, and for “whaling themed” snacks that are just random party food with whale related names.
They both seem to be saying “hey, are you an incredibly dull person? Why not use AI to look like you know about your prospective father-in-law’s work / you are capable of reading a book. Your guests will love your Queequeeg’s Spicy Pigs-In-A-Blanket.”
Ai has very specific use cases but they want to market it to everyday people who don't understand its limitations so they end up targeting people like this
