Showed the apartment to a few coworkers who live in the area, all of whom said I’d be insane not to take it.

[-] primus 2 points 7 months ago

Definitely do an inspection!

[-] caserino7 8 points 7 months ago

That’s the wrong question and it valorizes white institutions and white ways of knowing and being and structuring society in really problematic ways.

The most on-brand way for Trump’s popularity to tank would be if the Real ID requirement is a disaster, because it’s a good policy that was approved forever ago that he has essentially nothing to do with.

Should we advertise this place on the DfDDT? See if anyone is interested

[-] AdminMena 2 points 7 months ago

Im kinda hesitant to do that. Id probably leave it up to the mods.

[-] Moishe 1 points 7 months ago

Maybe just DM the remaining regulars who aren’t in the discord.

[-] primus 1 points 7 months ago

Idk if people will join unless reddit actually goes down :/

Even Discord adoption rate was good but not great I think

[-] AdminMena 2 points 7 months ago

Yeah im not sure how much sense it makes to just have 2 subreddits coexisting at the same time. Like if enough people want me to keep this one up I will but unless theres like an actual official exodus im not sure its going to really catch on

[-] primus 2 points 7 months ago

Let's see how many more regulars get banned lol

[-] primus 1 points 7 months ago

Fair enough

One annoying thing ive noticed is there does not appear to be a way to set a default sort for a community. You can however set a default from your profile but im not sure if that applies to comments

[-] Moishe 1 points 7 months ago

You can do it in Voyager.

[-] primus 1 points 7 months ago
[-] AdminMena 1 points 7 months ago

Im on browser rn but I mean like as a setting for the community or something. Like on reddit the dt is auto sorted by New for everyone. You cant seem to do that here. May be missing it tho

[-] primus 1 points 7 months ago

Oh I see what you mean

[-] AdminMena 3 points 7 months ago

It looks like theres custom emoji support Smiling goblin

[-] Moishe 2 points 7 months ago

Ok the Voyager app makes this pretty much a direct clone of the official Reddit app. Perfect.

what do people normally put on wedding registries

so far it’s just stuff I’d vaguely like to possess but not enough to spend money on

[-] Vileplume 3 points 7 months ago

Cash to pay for the honeymoon/down payment on a home.

[-] primus 2 points 7 months ago

We haven't made ours yet but yeah that's the idea. Also fine China if you're into that sort of thing

We hate having lots of stuff around though, so we're going to encourage people to contribute to the cash fund instead

When will the sun come out

[-] primus 3 points 7 months ago

I ate all my dinner last night which means I have no leftovers which means I have no lunch

[-] Moishe 2 points 7 months ago

Get marshmallow tested idiot.

[-] primus 2 points 7 months ago
[-] Moishe 2 points 7 months ago

The marshmallow test is a famous psychological experiment used to measure the development of deferred gratification in children.

The child is given a marshmallow, and told that they are free to eat it BUT that the adult will leave and return in a few minutes, and if they don’t eat it they will receive two marshmallows. In the original experiment, the children who resisted the marshmallow for the bigger reward went on to have much more successful lives.

Subsequently there’s been a lot of debate about the test. One criticism is that what you’re actually testing for is how much the child trusts adults - children who live with trustworthy adults can be secure in the belief that if they resist, they will get the promised reward. Children who cannot trust the adults in their lives rationally choose to eat the single marshmallow rather than risk getting nothing.

If you’ll indulge me in a small I-told-you-so, this candidate just won her election.

[-] Moishe 3 points 7 months ago

What, genuinely, is the steelman argument for my employer requiring every member of staff to watch a four hour PowerPoint about sexual harassment every year.

Presumably there is a person in some sort of decision-making role who believes this is a good idea, I just can’t picture who that person is or why they think that.

[-] Vileplume 2 points 7 months ago

So they have something to point to and say they tried to discourage it when it inevitably happens : /

[-] Moishe 1 points 7 months ago

If it’s purely CYA, why bother making it so long?

[-] Menakoy 2 points 7 months ago

I would assume theres some kind of legal liability thing at play?

[-] Moishe 1 points 7 months ago

Sure but like. There must have been a person who felt imposing that liability was a good idea.

[-] primus 2 points 7 months ago

I like the lemmy mouse
